SITE OF NEW COLLEGE
“Surprising” Criticism
Dissatisfaction with the siting of the new Christchurch Technical College, reported from a meeting of the college's board of managers, was most surprising, . the South Island superintendent of the Education Department (Mr T. M. Archer) said yesterday. “The proposal to erect a new college in Ensors road was fully discussed with the board of managers early this year,” said Mr Archer. “After the meeting of the board with senior officers of the department, the board confirmed in writing ‘that planning should proceed on the basis of a new building for the technical high school, preferably on the college playing fields site.’
“Before this decision was reached all possible sites were considered, and it was agreed that the Ensors road site was the most suitable.
“It will be very unfortunate if a desire for a change holds up a project which forms an essential part in the develotpment of technical education in this city,” Mr Archer said.
