BASKETBALL Nominations For Colts Team Close On June 22

As selectors in all grades were now preparing their lists of trialists it was decided at last evening’s meeting of the Canterbury Basketball Association Executive to remind players of the right of club coaches to nominate players in all grades for the guidance of selectors.

At this year's annual meeting clubs had unanimously decided to extend last season s experiment in picking the oolts team and to permit club coaches to nominate their best players. Nominations should be made immediately, and will definitely close for the colts team on June 22. It was also decided that selection of representative teams should be finalised by July 7, although in the event of wet Saturdays. an extension of time would be considered upon application of the selectors concerned. The Colts team, which is chosen from players in all grades who are 16 years and under at August 1, 1963, will play a similar colts team at Wellington on August 10. Other representative fixtures also approved were: — Senior.—v. South Canterbury, at Timaru. August 17; South Island quadrangular tournament. at Christchurch, August 3; New Zealand tournament, at Rotorua, August 24; v. Ashburton. at Christchurch, August 11. Senior Reserve.—v. Wellington (Muir Cup), at Wellington. August 10; v. West Coast A. at Christchurch, August 24; v. Hutt Valley, at Christchurch, August 17. Colts.—v. Waimate, at Christchurch, August,l7. Second Grade.—v. Hutt Valley. at Christchurch, August 17; v. Kalkoura. at Christchurch, August 17- v. Otago, at Dunedin (undecided); v. Waimate, at Christchurch, August 17. Third Grade—v Ashburton, at Ashburton. July 27; v. West Coast, and Hokitika at Hokitika, August 17: v. Lincoln, at Lincoln. September 7. Fourth Grade.—v. Ashburton, at Ashburton. July 27; v. West Coast and Hokitika, at Hokitika. August 17; V. Lincoln, September 7; v. Country High A, at Christchurch. August 24 Fiftn/Sixth Grade.—v. Ashburton .at Arhburton. July 27; v. Country High B, at Christchurch. August 24; v. Lincoln, at Lincoln. September 7.

With the practice games for the New Zealand players concluded. it was decided that the senior competition revert to the usual times, and from next Saturday senior games will be played at 140 p.m.,’ 2.30 p.m., and 3.20 p.m. A suggestion that the Canterbury senior team, when selected, takes the place of the bye, was not favoured.
