Highest Price In Three Years

The price of New Zealand butter rose 20s per cwt to 335 s today—the highest London price since March 19, 1960, when it was 3305. Australian moved up to 3345, and the price of English butter also went up to 3855. Other prices are: Polish, 3775; Dutch. 3755; Danish and Swedish, 3705; Finnish, 3605. It is understood there was reluctance by both New Zealand and Australia to increase the price, but the Danish and Dutch moves left no alternative.

Since quotas were imposed in the autumin of 1961 the price has risen by 85s per cwt.

SHIPMENTS OF POTATOES

For the fortnight ended June 8, 19.024 sacks of potatoes were shipped from Lyttelton, bringing the total for the current season to 51,304 sacks. The season’s total represents a decrease of 8756 sacks on the figure for last season at June 2. However. during the fortnight of May 25 to June 8. 1963, 5986 more sacks of potatoes were shipped than in the previous fortnight. In the fortnight to June 8. 12,285 sacks were shipped to Auckland, bringing the season’s total to 31,109 sacks Wellington received 3822 sacks, which increased its total to 4866, while Napier and Gisborne have received 6749 sacks from Lyttelton this season. The west coast of the North Island has received 1699 sacks this season to June 8, and to the same date Fiji has received 6881.
