North Vietnam today held a public trial of seven ‘‘United States-Diem” spies who infiltrarted into the coastal areas to carry out sabotage activities, .the Vietnam News Agency reported. The agency saad they used rubber boats to land on the Ha Tinh coast after they had been transported in a motorboat last December from the South Vietnam port of Da Nang. They moved into a mountain area between Ha Tinh and Quang Binih provinces to hide but were caught. Among things that were found on them were a rifle, two sten guns, five pistols, bullets, two transmitters, a hand - operated generator, camouflage suits and time mines.
The agency said the “Ngo Dinh security service” enrolled the men for espionage and sabotage work and United States officers trained them in Hue and Saigon. It did not report the outcome of the trial, or say whether it had ended. Korean Arrests
Two North Koreans were arrested in Tokyo today as suspected members of a North Korean “Spy ring,” police said. The Director-general of the Japanese police, Mr Tosihio Eguchi, said tighter coastal security was needed to guard against infiltrating “spies.” The two men arrested were charged with violating the emigration and immigration control ordinance. The bodies of what were believed to be three “North Korean agents” were found on the north Japan sea coast last April and May. In Jerusalem yesterday Shahimad El-Zahari, aged 31. was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment on charges of spying for Egypt. An accomplice, Ahmed ElAmsi. received 10 years.
