(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, June 9
India’s president, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan. said today that he believed the foreign policy of the Soviet Union was “one of comprom-. ise.” He said the Soviet Prime Minister (Mr Khrushchev) had a "liberal, a human kind of temperament.’’
He called on the Great Powers to' adopt a “long term plan" through which the world could settle its troubles and become a "home for humanity.’’ “The foreign policy of the Soviet Union is one of compromise,’’ the President told an interviewer in a national radio and television programme.
“Even with regard to the banning of nuclear tests we have come to a matter of arithmetic,” he said. "It is just possible we might come to an agreement.” Mr Khrushchev had "a liberal, human kind of temperament,” he said. “He is anxious for peace, so far as I am able to study his nature. So are the Great Powers.
“Instead of merely meeting crises as they arise day after day, if we have a long plan, then you will be able to bring about a settlement of this problem.”
