AUSTRALIAN CAMPAIGN
Dane Making Early Start
“The Press’ Special Service AUCKLAND, June 11.
The good Takanini two-year-old Dane, which has been nominated for the big events in Victoria next spring, is getting away to an early start. He is to leave for Melbourne tomorrow. The trainer and a partowner of Dane. D. R. Cameron, will be taking Dane by ship from Tauranga. In Melbourne they will hand the horse over to R. J. Shaw, an Australian trainer who prepares the New Zealand stayer Conference. Cameron hopes to return to New Zealand from Sydney almost straight away. Even though set back a little by a cold Dane seems to be in good heart after a spell from racing and hard training. A dark bay colt, by Summertime from Casa, he has had 10 starts for three firsts, four seconds and a fourth, so he is doing very well. Another good Takanini galloper to travel soon is Poet’s Pride. All going well he will leave next week-end for Hastings, where he will, compete at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s winter meeting. The trainer of Poet’s Pride F. N. Phillips, said today he hoped to take Poet’s Pride on for the Wellington winter meeting next month. Poet's Pride was one of the best sprinters at Trentham in March. In the meantime he secured seconds in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie and the Flying Mile, at Te Rapa. Bargoed, the winner of the York Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday, has been nominated for Trentham although his trainer C. M. Jillings is not able to say definitely whether the horse will make the trip. The owner of Bargoed, Mr T. W. Langford, who races the horse in partnership with his wife, is on a business trip to Sydney. He did not see Bargoed win last week. Pin Money, the winner of the Campbell Hurdles on Saturday, will be at Trentham for the Winter Hurdles on the third day of the Wellington meeting In the meantime he is likely to start on the first day of the Avondale winter meeting on June 29. It seems likely that Mali Peter, the star galloper tn hack company at Ellerslie will compete at Trentham but whether he does will depend on ‘‘how he is weighted.” says his ownertrainer. Mr M. Marinovich. For his first entry in open company Mali Peter was given 8-5 —51b more than the minimum weight—in the June Handicap at Te Awamutu on Saturday week. Peterzami. Nupia and Good Day Peter, from H. P. Long's stable at Te Rapa, are expected to compete at Hastings before travelling on to Trentham for the Wellington meeting and there is a good chance that Jim’s Count. Toy Tiger and Daysun. from R. T. Cotter's team, will follow the same programme.
