Equal Pay Law For Women In U.S.

WASHINGTON, June 10.
President Kennedy today signed a bill providing equal pay for equal work done by women.
“It gives them the same rights at the working place
. . . that they have enjoyed ait the polling place,” the President commented. He said the new law will help correct “the unconscionable practice” of paying female employees lower wages than males for the same job. The law will go into effect within a year Where, col-
lective bargaining contracts are involved, it may take two years. The 27 million workers covered by present minimum wage law provisions are covered by the Equal-Pay Act. Labour Department spokesmen estimated 8 000,000 women will be affected. Hotels, motels, restaurants, small retail businesses, laundrys and agriculture! workers are not included
