Ward May Face More Charges

LONDON, June 10.

Dr. Stephen Ward, a key figure in the Profumo scandal, was today remanded in custody for a week, charged with living wholly or in part on the earnings of prostitution.

When formally charged and cautioned, the 50-year-old society osteopath denied the charge.

Police opposed bail and said there weij? likely to be a “number of more serious charges.” If allowed bail, Ward might interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Mi Pelham Pound, who brought him cigarettes and science fiction thrillers, was quoted by one London newspaper as having said last night: “The doctor is supremely confid ent. He is sure he wil) knock the case for six.”
