Wekas
Sir, —As it is unlikely deer and opossums will ever be eradicated in our scenic reserves, and if poisonimg is resorted to for deer and poisoning and ground trap-
ping for opossums, th? wekas to be liberated at Arthur's Pass will have little chance of survival. They will also have to contend against stoats and weasels. Wherever poison or dogs have been used to control rabbits the weka has disappeared, and I am sure if poison or ground trapping is used to control opossums, wekas in the area will have no chance of survival. It is a shame to take them from their safe abode in the Chathams and to expose them to almost certain death in Arthur's Pass National Park. —Yours, etc., E. ROBERTS, SEN. Culverden, June 10, 1963.
