Allergies Widespread

Three out of four persons In Britain suffer from some sort of allergyasthma. hay fever, migraine—and are responsive to pollen, house dust, cat fur, dog hair, fish, milk or eggs, according to a report In the magazine “Norsing Mirror." In a recent test more than 70 per cent of a of the population reacted positively to a skinprick of minute quantities of these sub stances In larger amounts such substances could cause any of the allergies which put one person in 10 permanently under a doctor's advice
The main causes of asthma and rhinitis—asthma of the nose—are house dust, mould spores, wool and feathers. But. according to the “Nursing Mirror" other things can be - responsible for similar illnesses.
One 12-year-old schoolboy dropped to the bottom of his class because of migraine attacks which always came in the middle of the morning. Eventually the cause was traced to the apple he ate every day during the morning break. A young woman who suffered from occasional rashes on her legs noticed they only came on when it was raining. An allergy to wet nylon stockings was diagnosed.
