ARMS IN LAOS
Criticism Of U.S.
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, June 8.
Britain had rejected the draft of a Soviet message criticising the United States for allegedly interfering in the internal affairs of Laos and violating the Geneva agreement by delivering war materials, the Soviet news agency. Tass, said last night. The message was sent on June 3 to Lord Home, and co-chairman of the Geneva conference on Laos by the Soviet co-chairman, Mr Andrei Gromyko, the Soviet Foreign Minister. Britain’s reply did not deny American military shipments to Laos, but was not prepared to agree with the Charges in the Soviet message, Tass said. A Vientiane message says the Laotian Premier, Prince Souvanna Phouma, today flew to the Royal capital of Luang Prabang to report to the King of Laos on the current situation. The neutralists and the Communist Paithet Lao appear to be moving towards peace talks. However, mutual antagonisms have been sharpened by charges that the neutralists illicitly are importing American arms and that the Paithet Lao is using North Vietnamese troops and equipment.
