NOTE TO MODEL
Paper Had Letter (N.Z.PA.-Reuter —Copyright} LONDON, June 9. The “Sunday Mirror” today published a photostat of a letter, which the newspaper said, was written by Mr John Profumo to the red-headed model, Christine Keeler. The letter, dated August 9, 1961. said: “Darling, in great haste and because I can get no reply from your ’phone—"Alas something’s blown up tomorrow night and I can’t therefore make it. I’m terribly sorry, especially as I leave the next day for various trips and then a holiday so won’t be able to see you again until some time in September. Blast it "Please take great care of yourself and don’t run away “Love, J. ••rm writing this ‘cos I know you’re off for the day tomorrow and I want you to know before you go if I still can’t reach you by ’phone” The "Sunday Mirror” said it obtained the letter from Miss Keeler in January this year, but it was not published because the editor “was not satisfied that this letter constituted evidence of any substantial nature. It was effusive but not conclusive.” In April this year, after Mr Profumo had denied in the House of Commons that there w® any impropriety in his relationship with the model, the "Sunday Mirror” decided that “the fair course was to arrange that Mr Profumo’s letter would be returned to Mr Profumo himself.” The letter was handed to Mr Profumo’s solicitors in the presence of an assistant editor of the newspaper.
