Accord Near On Hot Line
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, June 8. The United States State Department said today that technical discussions with the Soviet Union on the establishment of a “hot line” between Washington and Moscow “seem to be about completed.” The department’s spokesman said, however, he could not now say “when or where the signing of the proposed agreement will take place.” The spokesman was commenting on press reports that the proposed agreement to establish a direct communications link between Moscow and Washington for use in emergencies to reduce the chances of accidental war was ready for signature in Geneva, probably next week.
Native Fighting.—Marauding raiders from the Merille tribe killed 32 Turkana tribesmen and stole 500 of their cattle at an encampment near Mogilia, Kenya's eastern region, police reported yesterday.—Nairobi, June 7.
