JUNIOR NATIONAL CUP SQUAD

17 Named For Selection

The 16-year-old Canterbury senior representative. F. Madrussen. is included in a squad of 17 from which the Canterbury Junior National Cup (Under 18) team will be selected. The squad, announced yesterday by the sole selector (Mr R, Storer), may be added to or names may be deleted if performances demand It. It is: R. R. Storer (Nomads). K. Samson (C.8.H.5.). N. McAlpine (C.8.H.5.). M. Thompson (Western). F. Madrussen (Technical Old Bovs), G. Stapleton (Nomads). R. W Thomas (C.8.H.5.). K. Griffiths (5.8.H.S.) A. W. Gowans (Nomads). R. J McLean (Nomads) R. Lili (Varsity). D. Allen (H. 5.0.8. A. Cameron (Technical Old Boys). B. Strieker (Shamrock). C Martin (Nomads). M. Mann (Western) and S. Molnar (Varsity). The team will be playing in Dunedin on June 29. The deficiencies at centrehalf and centre-forward that were apparent in last Monday’s game against Nelson could be remedied by the inclusion of Griffiths, the Shirley Boys High School player at centre-half, and a senior player from Shamrock. Strieker. It is unlikely that Madrussen will return to his position of left-half in which he played for last year’s South Island, under-16 team, of of left-back. Players of quality. Thomas and McAlpine, will probably fill those positions. Madrussen will most likely be further up front to add to the punch of the forward line. Two new players for the leftflank Allen and Molnar, are both neat, thoughtful players but may find it hard to make the final eleven: so could Stapleton. a strong full-back. Samson, the second goalie in the squad, appeared in the Canterbury under-20 team last year but will probably under-study Storer who played for under-20 representative team before he was 16.
