HARRIERS K. Connell Breaks Junior Record

With a record-breaking run, the Canterbury junior champion K. Connell (Shirley) took fastest time honours in the jupior division of the Methodist Harrier Club’s Governor’s Bay to Lyttelton handicap race on Saturday. Connell’s time of 31min 42sec for the six miles lowered last year's time of K Jago (Olympic) by Imin 29 sec.

In gaining senior fastest time, B Turner (Baptist), winner of the "New Brighton 50” earlier in the year, was 39sec outside J. K. Macdonald's 29min 14sec of last season. First Wins The handicap contests provided two runners with their first wins in harrier racing. Ar. improving senior. J. Scott (University), won this division from 4min 50sec behind go, and with a start of seven minutes on the scratch bunch including. Turner. The junior winner was A. T. Smith (Christchurch), 2min 50sec behind go. After setting a steady sus tamed pace from the start, Scoti held a slender, but secure lead over the concluding stages, having dropped his co-markers. twc other University men. J. Smart and J. Woodward. At the finish Scott held a 3sec margin on R. McKee (Mar--Ist), from the smin 45sec.mark who shadowed Scott closely for a long spell. Turner Picked Up After being down by 200 yard to one of his co-markers. I Preece (Olympic), with abou’ two miles to go. Turner picker up well over the final stages foi fastest time and ninth place i> a bunched field.
