Deed Of Gift From Queen (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 9. Sir Frank Mappin has received from the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) the deed of gift officially recording the Queen’s acceptance of the gift of his home on the slopes of Mount Eden as a residence for future Governors-General of New Zealand The property will not become available as a residence for the Governor-General until a year after Sir Frank Mappin’s death. The deed is signed on behalf of the Queen by Mr Holyoake.
Set in a park-like garden the property has frontages to Mountain road. Glenfell road and Savannah street.
Sir Frank Mappin announced the gift in May last year.
