OVER THE HILLS

The excellent number of entries received for the Governor’s Bay - Lyttelton harrier races today has been particularly gratifying to the organising club, Methodist, which abandoned its Bridle Path race, first held as a centennial event, in 1950, in favour of the new course last year. The change was made because of the declining entries for the Bridle Path event and the change has been fully vindicated. Last year about 80 runners started in the senior event but entries this year have risen to 115, while support for the junior event has more than doubled, with 56 runners listed. According to an official of the club there were only about 28 entries in the last race over the Bridle Path.

The course, starting from the Governor’s Bay Post Office and finishing at the Lyttelton Post Office, has been accurately measured at just a few yards under the six miles and seniors seeking fastest time honours have a goal of 29m in 14sec set by J. K. Macdonald last year.
