AWAPUNI DOUBLE

Hawera Pair Picked "The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, June 7. Bright Coral and Croydon's Goid should continue the succcess ot Hawera-trained horses in the T.AB. double on the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club's winter meeting tomorrow. The double races will be the Palmerston North and the Stewards’ Handicaps. Bright C al is prepared by his owraei. B. K. Hart, and Croydon's Gold by W. McEwan. Both horses are in excellent form, having raced with distinction in their last starts at the Wanganui meeting. Bright Coral was second on the opening day and Croydon’s Gold won on Monday. Though well beaten by Advocacy at Wanganui, Bright Coral defeated the others as easily. Merit was added to his performance when Advocacy, with a penalty, failed only in the last stride to repeat the win in the Connolly Handicap on Monday. * At his preceding start. Bright Coraa won the Foxton Cup. He has 21b more than he carried at Wanganui. His strongest opposition may come from Parlez and Tilly Light. Parlez has been racing well, having recorded thirds in the President’s Handicap, at Woodville, and the Foxton Cup in her last two starts. Tilly Light attracted attention by his training on Thursday. At his last start he was beaten narrowly by Determined in the J. A Betts Memorial at Masterton.

Croydon's Gold won easily at Wanganui on Monday, and it will take a good performance to prevent him from making his record two consecutive wins in the Stewards’ Handicap. There was considerable rain during the week, and the track is likely to be soft. Selections:— 11.30 am.—Ruahine Hack Hurdles: The Bandit Mireusonta.
