TROTTING Hydro Power’s Sound Prospects At Nelson
Hydro Power, a splendid second to Bonnie Widow at Ashburton last Monday, should extend his sound record in the first division of the Hardy Handicap at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow. Hydro Power has drawn favourably and his ability to begin smartly should ensure that he is prominent throughout.
Hydro Power, a member of M. 3. Smith’s Waimate team, is a six-vear-old gelding by Worthy Monarch from Hydro Belle. He can handle all types of track conditions and appears to be better than most in adverse conditions.
Charlesworth has finished fourth at his last four appearances, his placing in the Queen’s Birthday Stakes at Ashburton last Monday ensuring him of solid support in this field.
1 Lucky Meadow, a member of C. V. May’s Meth ven team, ..was handy throughout the Queen’s Birthday Stakes at Ashburton and held on for fifth. She has plenty of ability •nd should be one of the better prospects. Kelso Lady, Rannack Song. Trudy Helen and Joy Town •re others in this division to have raced reasonably well in recent weeks.
If Willycan can handle the track conditions, he should be a fine winning prospect in the second division. He fought on strongly to beat all but Conga Flight on the first day at Ashburton and did not start last Monday. He has raced solidly lately and is due for a win. Mile End paced a useful race to finish fifth at Ashburton last Monday. She could be on the way back to the promising form she showed earlier in her career and might be the hardest for Willycan to beat. Rangipo was an impressive winner on the first day at Ashburton and on Monday "she lost her chance at the'
start and finished tenth. If she makes her Usual reliable beginning, she should take beating. Singßway, Syracuse and Chief Lynn are others capable of a bold showing. The double will be run on the Nelson Winter Cup and the Collingwood Handicap. Automatic and Waryren forming a likely combination. The track has been softened by rain on Wednesday but if there is further drying, it should be in good order, if on the easy side, tomorrow. Double fields, with form, are:
