Perjury was a • matter, which the courts could not treat lightly because it wen' to the basis of the administration of justice, said Mr Justice Richmond in the Supreme Court at Auckland today when he fined Edward Charles Weir, aged 48. a locomotive driver, £lOO on a charge of aiding Carlton John Pollard to commit perjury. His Honour .also ordered Weir to pay £5O towards the cost of the prosecution. Such a crime as perjury was normally dealt with by imorisonment. he said.
