Athletics ALL-WEATHER TRACK
Proposal For New Brighton The New Brighton Athletic Chib haa plans to Improve on .U proposed cinder atbletie track at Rawhiti Domain and is investigating ways and means of putting down a form of all-weather track which would be the best in Canterbury and a considerable asset to athletic* here. The pegs for the new course at Rawhiti Domain have already been set out and the contractor* are ready to begin excavations. If present plans prove successful the new track will be compounded of powdered brick clay and oil—« mixture which baa proved •ucceeatul for weiLknown athletic ali-we-ather circuit* overaeM At Rawhiti the course will be at international standard*. Mid a spokesman for the New Brighton elub. It will have six lanes with provision for steeplechase pH* and jump* and the run-up* for botn the high and Jong jump* will be provided with the same allweather type surface as the track itself The aU-weatbor track will cost a little more than the cinder track, but will be well worth while, said the club spokesman. At preaent there wa* some doubt about the availability of sufficient cinders u> form a cinder track.
It is understood that preliminary stripe at the allweather surface SOggertid are to be tested soon.
