THREE-YEAR SENTENCES
Two Burglars Gaoled
Sentences of three years’ imprisonment each were miposed on Wayne Maurice Carstairs and Harold Joseph Oakes in the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Wilson yesterday. Carstairs and Oakes were appearing for sentence for burglary at the premises of W. W. Keighley and Com-’ pany. Ltd., on February 3. They were found guilty of this charge by a jury on May 8. Carstairs was also sentenced to a concurrent term of two years’ imprisonment for burglary at the home of Alec Quinton Manson at Chatteris Bay on February He was found guilty on this charge in the Supreme Court on May 21. Carstairs was convicted and discharged on a charge of threatening to kill Stanley James Main. For Carstairs, Mr A. B. Harman said that the threat to kill was made in the heat of the moment in conditions of extreme disappointment at being unexpectedly refused bait A letter of apology had been sent. ’
Mr B. J. Drake appeared for Oakes, and Mr C. M. Roper for the Crown.
Dog Curfew.— Under a bylaw passed by the Mount Eden Borough Council on Tuesday night no dog in the borough is allowed to be at large between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise.—(P.A.)
