RELIGIOUS TEACHING
“Normal Part Of Schooling”
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, May 28. Making Christian education a normal part of schooling, free from individual decisions by school committees and headmasters, is urged by the women’s committee of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Churches. A recent amendment to the law makes school religious instruction a matter for decision by school committees. Remits on the matter passed by the women's committee are being sent to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nordmeyer), and to education authorities. *
The remits ask that Christian education be “normally and naturally available” in all State primary and secondary schools as an integral part of education.
It should not be compulsory.
