FUNERAL OF M.P.

Huge Crowd In Athens

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) ATHENS. May 28.

About 100,000 people today attended the funeral of a Left-wing Greek member of Pairliament, Mr Grigorios Lambrakis, who was fatally injured when he was knocked down by a motor-cycle at Salonika last Wednesday. Hysterical women fainted and about 10 people were injured at the Athens cemetery when marble graves collapsed under the weight of the crowd. Thousands of people chanted “Peace, peace” and “No more blood” as they followed the hearse to the cemetery. The leader of the United Democratic Left Party, Dr. John Passalides, today sent messages to 14 Heads of State accusing the Greek Government of having “armed the hands of Lambrakis's murderers.’’

The motor-cyclist who knocked down Mr Lambrakis, Spyros Kotzamanis. will appear before an investigating magistrate tomorrow on a charge of murder. Salonika police said a material witness in the case against Kotzamanis was found unconscious in the street yesterday after being beaten about the head by an unknown person.
