Job Action Begins
A ban on labouring work was imposed by about 100 tradesmen on three major construction jobs in Christchurch yesterday. The tradesmen are all members of the Canterbury Carpenters' Union. They are seeking an hourly rate of 8s 4d—an increase of is 2}d. Statements on the job action are expected to be made shortly in Wellington by the Federation of Labour and the national executive of the Carpenters’ Union. An official of the Canterbury Carpenters' Union returned to Christchurch yesterday morning from talks with F.O.L. officials in Wellington.
