Television Prices
Sir, —No doubt Mr McKenzie has hit the retailers in a sore spot. I remernter reading of the meeting of retailers in the city on April 10 and I also remember reading in the same report that if small retailers attempted to sell television sets to the public at less than the "ring price" wholesalers would cut off their supplies.
Mr Hawes heard this statement himself because he was there at the time. There are large grocery concerns in this city that do sell television sets for up to £BO less than I would pay for one in town. Let New Zealand have more McKenzies and fewer price rings.—Yours, etc.. HOPEFUL CONSUMER. May 28, 1963. Sir. —Televiewers have at last exposed a racket in which the public have been, and still are being, fleeced over the ridiculous prices of ‘.elevision sets. Why' does the Government not investigate’ The chairman of the retailers’ association would be performing a better public service by telling his own association to give the consumers a fair deal and sell sets at a reasonable price. Yours, etc., HONESTY DOES PAY. May 28, 1963.
