HOCKEY Canterbury Team Has Few Changes

The trial team that won the match played at Jellicoe Park last Sunday In rather unconvincing fashion, has been retained en bloc for the representative match to be played against Otago next Monday The only positional change Involves returning K. Thomson to the half-back line and A. Patterson to Thomson's position of inside-right. Although, because of the soundness of his backs. K. Mortimer had little to do in the trial, he has probably been retained on account of his experience and ability to rise to the occasion.

J. C. Abrams, last year's Challenge Shiejii captain, was a certainty to retain his fightback position, while L. Innes, who has been on the fringe of selection for several years, received his chance following some very consistent displays this year.

Strong Half-backs The half-backs, with three New Zealand representatives, will undoubtedly be the team's strongest unit and it will be an excellent forward line that will consistently penetrate as far as the backs. R. Gillespie, an expert at the use of the penalty push, has been appointed vice-captain. The forward line is very much as expected although ft was thought that the former New Zealand captain and Olympic representative. N. H Hobson, may have forced his inclusion after a year’s lay-off. following his outstanding performance against High School Old Boys last Saturday. However, his selection as captain of the B team will serve an equally valuable purpose and nis generalship should prove vital to the team, which includes a number of young players. The teams are:— . . A Team.—K. Mortimer (Woolston): J. Abrams (Woolston). captain, L. Innes (Harewood): K. Thomson (University), R. Gillespie (Woolston), vice-cap-tain, E. Barnes (H. 5.0.8.
