“DIRTY POND TODAY”

“The people of Christchurch and Canterbury will mostly be interested in the news that the Estuary can became an aquatic playground,” said Mr T. D. Flint •when the Christchurch Drainage Board received Mr E. F. Scott’s economic report on the Estuary. “That is one good reason why we should adopt the recommendations.” The public were "fed up w-ith the Estuary being the dirty, muddy pond it is today,” he said. “We are plagued with smells and insects from it “It is time somebody took Bn interest in the Estuary. If the board is not prepared to do so, then some other body will' arise and take on the responsibility." While agreeing that an aquatic playground was desirable, Mr G. A. G. Connal said it was purely ancillary. from the board's point of view, to the drainage improvements. Mr L. C. Krom said the report was an indication that the board was taking longawaited action on the problems erf the Estuary. All the speakers and several other members congratulated Mr Scott on his report. I
