FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A belt of high pressure lies over the North Island and the north Tasman Sea, and a complex frontal zone lies across the south Tasman Sea and Southland. Forecast:—

Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh north-west winds; cloudy and mild, with rain in the western high country; a change to south-westerlies and showery weather tonight. Outlook: cold and showery, with south-westerlies. West Coast.—Moderate to fresh northerlies; overcast, with rain and moderate temperatures. Outlook: occasional showers.

Marlborough and Nelson.—North-west winds, strong about the Sounds and moderate elsewhere; cloudy; some scattered showers in Nelson and the Sounds; moderate temperatures. Outlook: occasional rain.
