WELLINGTON, May 13

Four big teaching positions would be brought within the scope of the Advisory Committee on Higher Salaries, the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) told the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute today. The four positions were the principals of technical institutes or polytechnics, teachers’ colleges, top-grade post-primary schools and the top-grade intermediate schools, he said.

The committee was provided for in the State Services Act. It will make recommendations to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake). on salaries for the most senior positions in the State Services.

Mr Tennent said both the institute and the Post Primary Teachers’ Association had asked that one or more of the top teaching positions be brought within the purview of the advisory committee when it was Set up.
