AWARD RISE FOR BUS DRIVERS
(N.Z. Press Association)' WELLINGTON, May 12. Tram drivers, conductors! and other public transport employees receive an extra | 3jd an hour under a new award issued by the Arbitration Court. Payment will be retrospective to January 6 1963 Bus drivers who also collect fares will receive 5d an hour more than the ordinary rate for drivers. They used to receive 4d extra. Salaried workers receive an extra Ils 8d a week. An unqualified preference clause has been written into the award.
Car Strike* Pole. —When a car struck a power pole at the corner of Linwood avenue and Bromley road about 7.5 p.m. on Saturday. Thomas Stanley Manhire, of 16 Manhire street, suffered a lace ratoon to the head. He was treated at the Chriatchurch Hospital. The pole wa* snapped off at ground level
