FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation.—An anti-cyclone centred near Northland covers the North Island. A strong westerly airstream prevails over southern New Zealand and a cold front is approaching Southland from the south-west. Forecast:—
Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh north to northwest winds at first; partly cloudy, mild weather; a change to flesh south-westerlies during the morning, reaching northern areas in the afternoon, bringing cloudy skies, cooler temperatures and occasional showers: Outlook: becoming partly cloudy. Marlborough.—Fresh to strong north-west winds, gale force in exposed places about Cook Strait; partly cloudy; mild day temperatures. Outlook: fine.
Nelson.—Fresh to strong south-west winds; a few isolated showers about the western ranges otherwise fine, with mild day temperatures. Outlooklittle change.
Buller and Westland.—Fresh to strong west to south-west winds; cloudy and cool, with frequent showers. Outlook: occasional showers.
