colleague not accustomed to losing, find the turf developing an extraordinary elasticity. When something like 10,000' dollars depend on a putt, it must become a thorough test of nerve as well as skill; we are unlikely to learn more on this, save from hearsay. But the feature of Charles’s success is that he is left-handed. It makes him a phenomenon in the United States, and must be a vast encouragement to left-handers in all walks of life who have been brought up to accept such feeble rebukes as
that they are standing on the wrong side of the ball, or the bat. It may all lead to a craze for left-handers—-left-handed barmen, cars fitted for left-handed drivers, tin openers for left-handed housewives; door knobs, cardigan buttons, a dozen things could be affected. Give way to the Left will be the cry. Parents may soon be watching anxiously for their babies to grasp the rattle for the first time. Which hand, which hand? Bob Charles may have started something. We ourselves have at home a little left-handed batsman . . .
