LOVELOCK TROPHY
University To Defend Title
Winner of the Lovelock commemorative relay, run over six sections of 1500 metres, in nine of the last 13 years, the Canterbury University cross-country team will defend the trophy again at Dunedin
University has a remarkable record of success in the event including several re-cord-breaking runs, the last being in 1956 when the present record of 25min 14.6scc was set after one of the team, P. H. Barnett, had lost 140 yards through tearing a tendon.
The University team for Saturday will include only two from last year but is expected to make a strong attempt to add to the club’s list of successes.
The team is P. Marks, a former Wellington half-mile representative, B. Milne, G. Davies, G. Dwyer. B. Jones, and P. Hewlett.
