Winner Of Lottery Checks His Ticket

DUNEDIN. May 9. “Mr Cottle? Congratulations." Silence for a moment. Then: "Why?" This was the opening of a telephone conversation this morning with Mr N. S. Cottle, a car dealer, of 52 Earls road, who today won £ 12.000 in the Golden Kiwi Lottery No. 97. In the background the telephone was hastily dropped —could be heard: "Where’s that lottery ticket?" "'Ticket number 137104. is that right?” He was assured that it was right. “And this is dead serious?" Indeed it was. “Well!’’ With this understatement, a much richer Mr Cottle announced that he was then leaving for work. A complete list of prizewinning tickets, including £5 prizes, will b-> advertised later.

Submarine Fire.—Three workmen were injured today in a flash fire m the new Polaris submarine Woodrow Wilson, the Associated Press reported. Only minor damage was reported in the 45 million dollar submarine which is now being outfitted. —Vallejo iCalifornia), May 8.
