GUILTY OF PERJURY
Three Accused . Sentenced (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 9. "Perjury is a crime that goes to the foundation of our system of justice and to the basis of society,” Mr Justice McGregor said in the Supreme Court at Wellington today.
Three persons who had pleaded guilty to having committed perjury in the Magistrate's Court were appearing for sentence. They were Nga Namiro, aged 23. a nursing aid; Diane Ellis, aged 22, married; and Brian Lindsay Scott, aged 26, a workman.
"Your stories were entirely concocted and false, and had the effect of mialeeding a magistrate and resulted in the acquittal of a person who Was obviously guilty,” said his Honour.
Scott was fined £4O and admitted to probation for 12 months. Namiro and Ellis were each fined £l5
