RENTS AND HOUSING
Labour Party Remits (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 9. The reintroduction of rent control is favoured by the Labour Party, which at its annual conference today passed also these remits: (1) That greater protection to tenants be provided under the Tenancy Act.
<2) That the income limit for State house applicants be raised by at least the percentage increases of the last general wage rise and to accord with a normal standard of living. (3) That a vigorous policy of, high-density housing be pursued, especially in the four main centres. The conference referred the following remits to the policy committee: (1) That State Advances loans at low interest rates be made to a couple wishing to build additions to their homes to house aged relations. (2) That State housing committees be investigated with a view to widening their representation.
(3) That State house rents be reviewed where the occupants are pensioners or widows.
