Racing Adelaide Cup To Woolstar
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) ADELAIDE, May 8. Woolstar outstayed Sometime in the two-mile Adelaide Cup at Morphettville today. Sometime, even-money favourite, made a drive at Woolstar entering the straight. But his rival held him off by half a length, with two and a half lengths to Delville (5 to 1) third. Last year, Sometime, a 5 to 4 favourite, was second. His sire. Summertime, although he has had many winners of cup and classic races, has not yet got a two mile winner. Woolstar, a five-year-old. won the South Australian St Leger and Aiderman Cup. Then a sesamoid injury threatened to end his racing career. He cost only 135gns at the Adelaide yearling sales.
Chester Vase To Christmas Island
(N.ZJ’.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON. May 7. Lord Ennisdale’s Christmas Island (100<8) ridden by the British jockey, L. Piggott. scored a runaway win in the £2253 Chester Vase. Second was ix>rd Rosebery’s Fighting Ship, 7/4 favourite and joint second favourite for the Derby, and third Captain A. Keith’s Coliseum 6/1.
