More Fountains Wanted
Sir, —I am sorry I hurt “R.D.L’s” feelings and that I confused hanging baskets with beflowered urns, and Swiss villages with Bergen, in Norway I presume, though there are several places of that name. But I do feel that E. J. Doudney and “G.R.T." should share the blast when it comes to drinking fountains and concrete basins, for after all, “silence gives consent,” and it was E. J. Doudney who suggested “a number of well-designed drinking fountains” and “G.R.T.” who said “all must enjoy the brilliantly-conceived cascading concrete basins in Melbourne.” and there was no reproof. Perhaps “R.D.L.” will get some more fountains in Christchurch but I fear not until we have achieved our town hall. Good luck to his meeting on May 15. It will be interesting.— Yours, etc., J S.C. May 8, 1963.
