Woman’s Pacific Flight In Skirt And Blouse

NANDI AIRPORT (Fiji), May 8. Mrs Betty Miller, cemCted another stage of attempt to become the first woman to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean from the United Stales to Australia when she landed at Nandi Airport at 6.22 GALT, today. She took Bhr 26m in for her 1250-miles flight from Canton Island, a Pacific atoll, to Fiji. She circled the town of Lautoka near Nandi for five minutes in her aircraft to enable officials to clear an international flight Mrs Miller received a big welcome from the Fijians, when she stepped from her Slane dressed in a pink louse and fawn skirt. She said the trip from Canton Island had been excellent and she was not tired. She had run into a rainstorm on the journey which forced her to fly by instruments. Mrs Miller is ferrying the 50.000-dollar twin-engine plane to a Brisbane buyer. She said she wanted to have a day in Fiji to see something of the country.
and planned to leave on Friday morning An excited American tourist among the large welcome group called out: “Welcome to the U.S.A." Mrs Miller smiled, and said “I hope I didn’t turn in that direction. I was hoping I had got to Nandi Airport in Fiji”
