White Heron
A white heron which recently made its hope at Lake Emma will be closely watched by the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society’s ranger (Mr M. Orton) during the shooting season which starts on Saturday. The heron is believed to have flown from Okarito, South Westland. They were seldom seen now east of the Southern Alps, although 14 had been counted in MidCanterbury eight years ago, said Mr Orton.
