C.W.L Entries In Competition
Six pieces of embroidery from the centre. Mairehau. North Beach and South Brighton branches of the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes were chosen by the newlyelected Canterbury executive at its first monthly meeting recently as the federation’s entry in this year’s Robert Young Rose Bowl competition.
The executive decided that the convener of next year's competition would be Mrs R. W. McKeohnie, of North Beach. This year's competition was convened by Mrs D. W. R. Brown, of Bryndwr.
Plans for the choral festival which, this year, is to be held in conjunction with the biennial council meeting in Blenheim, were completed. The district festival will be held on May 28, and the area festival on June 19, both in the Maryknoll Hall. The meeting decided to hold the annual spring flower show in the Yaldhurst Hall in September. This year’s competition for the Ogden trophy is to be a poem. The subject agreed upon was “Our Institute.” Members of the executive appointed as delegates were: —Mrs G. E. McLachlin (advisor to the Avon Country Girls’ Club); Mesdames E. Holmes and E. Melhuish (federation representatives on the general committee of the Templeton chapel); conveners of meetings of federation groups, Mrs E. Holmes (Christchurch), Mrs A. J. Knight (Malvern), Mrs E. Louden (Port Hills*.
Presentation Made.— A gift and spray of flowers were presented to Mrs P. Zeff at the annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Family Planning Association. Mrs Zeff will leave New eZaland'this month for England where she will spend about three months. While in London she will attend a family planning conference.
