Tournament In Christchurch
By a margin of one vote. Christchurch was chosen as ths venue of the 1983 Challenge Shield tournament by ths management committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association last night. The date* were fixed as September 10 to 13. »
The matter was discussed in committee.
Canterbury has held the shield since IBM In thia and the following year Canterbury won the tournament. There was no competition in 1958 and since 1059 the shield has been contested on a challenge basis, Canterbury winning 14 and drawing five of these games • At the annual meeting of the association tills year It was decided that the shield should once more be at stake at a tournament. Sole Selector Mr F. G. McLeod, of Auckland. was appointed sole New Zealand selector for 1963. Last season Mr McLeod was coselector with Mr B A. Turner, who was unable to carry on in that position this year The committee appointed five men—Messrs Turner (Palmerston North). P J. Spiers (Wellington). I. R Smith (Canterbury), R. H. MaeklnJay (Dunedin) and the national coach. Mr R. N Randle (Christchurch> —as advisory New Zealand selectors. The New Zealand team of 11 players and three emergencies for the first test against Australia at New Plymouth on July 6 Is to reach the committee by June 17 For the second test at Hamilton on July 27 the team is to be selected bv July 8 The committee' confirmed Timani as the venue of the inter-island match, to be played on September 14. , The president of the aaaoclatlon (Mr S.
