F.O.L. Wants Inquiry
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, May 2.
The Federation of Labour wants a public inquiry into the operations activities and expenditure of New Zealand’s Security Police.
The annua] conference today passed a remit: “That, as the provisions of the Police Offences Act and the I.C. and A. Act provide for the traditional actions of the trade union movement to be declared subversive, and accordingly come within the ambit of the Security Police, that the Federation of Labour seeks representation on a public committee of inquiry into the operations, activities and expenditure of this department" The conference will also make representations to have the Police Offences Act revoked insofar as its provisions have any implication to industrial and union activities.
It also decided “that the annual estimates of expenditure of the Security Police be a separate appropriation of Parliament.”
