N.Z. TRADE MISSION
‘Hopeful Signs Of Success’
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. May 1. The New Zealand trade mission, now in Sydney, is sure, even at this early stage, that its visit to Australia-'will prove well worth while.
This confident prediction was given today by the mission’s leader, Mr G. W. Lane Mr Lane, who is general manager of the Mosgiei Woollen Factory Company; Ltd., in Dunedin, said there were hopeful signs of the mission’s success in the widespread interest being shown by Sydney traders in its products.
He added, however, that it was too early yet to form any definite views or give any reel indication of just how successful or otherwise the mission’s Sydney visit would be.
To date, there had been a good reception from Australian business firms and some orders already had been booked. More were expected. Mr Lane said several of his colleagues had reported great interest in their goods. In several fields, it appeared the quality of the products was higher than the market was prepared to accept. If this trend continued, during the mission’s visit; those New Zealand firms concerned might have to be prepared to build to the Australian buyers’ specifications rather than to the higher standards expected on the New Zealand market.
“Another problem has been the fairly widespread existence of franchise holders, who are reluctant to extend their range of brands within tlie particular product field,” he added.
“But so far this aspect has been encountered by only a few of the mission’s members.”
