DIEDERICH’S PLANS
May Return To N.Z.
(N.Z. P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK. May 2.
The New Zealand journalist, Bernard Diederich, who was gaoled by the Haiti authorities and later expelled during the latest terrorist outbreak, said today he might take his wife and six-week-old son on a visit to New Zealand if he can get them out of Haiti. Diederich, who runs the newspaper “Haitian Sun” in Port-au-Prince, said he hoped to return to Haiti when the present troubles died down, but if that was impossible he would take his family to New Zealand.
Haiti became Diederich’s home when he fell in love with the tropical island of Hispaniola during a world sailing cruise with two other New Zealanders after his discharge from the Royal Navy in Vancouver in 1949.
