CENTENARY OF RED CROSS

Celebration Plans For Juniors

The North Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society decided to build its celebrations of the centenary of the founding of the International Red Cross around its junior members, according to the president, Mrs R. I. Brake, at the quarterly meeting. On September 28 a rally of more than 3000 Junior Red Cross members would be held in the King Edward Barracks. This would be the largest gathering of Junior Red Cross members yet held in New Zealand, said Mr E. W. Reeves, the chairman of the executive.

The Junior Red Cross would be providing the country’s Red Cross leaders 20 years from now. It was only fitting that they should play a major part in the celebrations, he said. After a parade which would pass over the Bridge of Remembrance, the members would take part in a series of static tableaux at the barracks. The tableaux are to be built on the three aims of the Red Cross movement—health, service, and international friendship.

Gift of Fountain.— A gift of a £5OOO coloured fountain for the Octagon has been given by the “Evening Star," Dunedin, to mark its centenary.—(P.A.)
