EXTENSION OF SERVICE
Sefton Telephone Exchang
Sefton telephone subscribers were recently asked whether they wanted to be able, at a slightly higher rental, to call more subscribers in the Rangiora area, a Post Office spokesman said. A hundred subscribers were in favour of this extended service and seven against. Accordingly, the new service had been approved, and would come into operation when the Sefton manual exchange was converted to automatic working towards the end of this year. The new Sefton telephone exchange service boundary would extend from the sea coast along the Ashley river to approximately one mile from the Ashley township. It would then extend in a northerly direction to meet the south branch of the Kowai river. The boundary would then extend along the river to the railway bridge, meeting the coast between Leithfield and the Ashley river.
The Post Office intended soon to approach a small number of subscribers, now served from the Rangiora and Amberley exchanges, who. under the new set-up, would be included in the Sefton exchange boundary, to find whether they wanted a 24-hour automatic telephone service from the Sefton exchange. i
