Surgical Footwear
Sir,—l see by Saturday’s issue the price for surgical footwear has been increased from £2 10s to £4. As I happen tc be one of those affected, and also an age beneficiary, I make an emphatic protest at this cruel and wicked imposition. It is quite evident the powers that be do not know what it is to have an affliction, or seemingly. are not concerned. What an opportunity this is for the Opposition to take this matter up No-one objects to paying some of the costs for surgical footwear, but to increase the cost by 60 per cent, is just the last straw.—Yours, etc., EDWARD H C BARTLETT April 8. 1963 (When the letter w r as referred to the Minister of Social Security (Mr McKay) he said: “If Mr Bartlett or any person who is required to wear surgical footwear has difficulty in meeting the cost, I* would suggest that they discuss the matter with their local Registrar of Social Security, who would be able to advise them whether any financial assistance is available.”)
