Phosphate Ship At Port
Bringing a 12,800-ton phosShate cargo from Nauru, the >O3 ton Norwegian motor freighter, Vinni, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning. Commanded by Captain Ragnvald Rasmussen, of Gjoevik, near Oslo, the six-year-old freighter, which has accommodation for six passengers, is a sister ship to the Vingrom, a familiar phosphate trader in these waters.
Her crew of 43, mainly Norwegian, Includes three stewardesses. The Vinni has made one previous visit to New Zealand but this is her first Lyttelton visit. Before entering the phosphate trade, she was engaged on the North AmericaEurope trade. the United States-Mediterranean trade, and the grain trade between Canada and China.
The Vinni began bunkering after arrival yesterday and will shift to a discharging berth this morning. After discharging 5800 tons of phosphate at Lyttelton she will proceed to Dunedin, probably about Monday. to complete discharge.
